8-speed tiptronic0D5 AL552-8Q3.0 V6 TDI quattro 272PSThe PDF reserves tiptronic for the 600Nm 3.0 V6 TDI quattro. SSP 644 identifies it as the AL552-8Q quattro gearbox.

The B9 uses the newer DL382 gearbox for the 7-speed S tronic models. On European-market B9 cars, the ZF 8HP automatic is only used with the 3.0 TDI 200kW engine.

Quattro systems

In this 2017 UK guide, quattro is available only on specific higher-output automatic models. Do not confuse TDI ultra with quattro ultra: in this PDF, “ultra” refers to efficiency-focused diesel models, not the later quattro ultra drivetrain branding.

Front-wheel-drive models in the PDF include the 1.4 TFSI, 2.0 TFSI 190PS, 2.0 TDI 150PS and 190PS, the 2.0 TDI ultra variants, and the 3.0 V6 TDI 218PS.

The brochure describes quattro as automatically distributing power between all four wheels according to grip. It does not list the mechanical centre-differential details, so confirm the exact drivetrain hardware from the VIN, PR codes or factory build sheet when comparing individual cars.

ETKA gives a useful clue about the hardware. For the 7-speed S tronic, gearbox 0CL is listed with a self-locking centre differential, while 0CJ is listed as “ultra quattro” with an oil-filled four-wheel coupling. For the 8-speed automatic, gearbox 0D5 is also listed with a self-locking centre differential. In other words, not every B9 quattro setup is the same: some cars use the traditional centre-differential quattro layout, while ultra quattro cars use a coupling-based system.

Technical notes from SSP 644

Audi SSP 644 is a service training document for the A4 (8W). It is not a repair manual, but it has useful technical context that the sales brochure does not show.

AreaUseful detail
Body and aeroThe A4 sedan has a claimed drag coefficient of 0.23; Avant is 0.26. Length is 4726mm and wheelbase is 2820mm. Boot volume is listed as 480 litres for sedan and 505 litres for Avant. SSP 644 says the body is 15kg lighter than the previous A4 (8K), using a mix of steels plus cast aluminium parts.
Fuel tankFront-wheel-drive cars use a 40-litre tank as standard, with a 54-litre option. quattro cars use a 58-litre tank.
SCR / AdBlueDiesel cars have SCR. SSP 644 lists two AdBlue tank sizes: 12 litres and an optional 24-litre version for longer range between refills.
Chassis platformThe B9 A4 is based on MLBevo. SSP 644 describes newly developed five-link front and rear suspension, with component design related to the Audi Q7 (4M).
Suspension codes1BA is standard suspension. 1BE is sport suspension, about 23mm lower. 1BR is rough-road suspension, about 13mm higher. 1BQ is adaptive sport suspension with damping control, same ride height as 1BE. 1BL is adaptive comfort suspension with damping control, about 10mm lower than standard.
Service intervalsFlexible oil service is 15,000km / 1 year up to 30,000km / 2 years depending on use. Inspection service is 30,000km / 2 years. Cabin filter is 60,000km / 2 years. Engine air filter is 90,000km. Brake fluid is after 3 years, then every 2 years. S tronic oil interval is 60,000km.
Timing driveSSP 644 lists timing belts for 1.4 TFSI and 2.0 TDI at 210,000km. 2.0 TFSI and 3.0 V6 TDI are listed as chain-driven with no scheduled replacement in the maintenance table.
